Hi Members,
The NSW government is seeking feedback from all types of rehoming organisations as part of the NSW Legislative Council's inquiry into pounds in the state.
This short questionnaire is open to all residents of NSW; however, a response from all types of rehoming organisations, from rescue groups to Not for profit shelters, will have an impact and help to give a good representation of the sector. This will help to shape future legislation, in particular, around the Companion Animals Amendment (Rehoming Animals) Bill 2022.
The inquiry covers areas affecting pounds in NSW, including:
-
Resourcing and welfare challenges
-
Buildings and facilities
-
The laws, regulations and codes governing them
-
The number of animals entering NSW pounds and how to reduce this
-
Euthanasia rates and practices, including reporting
-
Behavioural assessments
-
The relationship between pounds and rescue organisations
-
Homeless cats in the state
-
Improving the treatment, care and outcomes of animals in NSW pounds
You can read the full terms of reference and see the committee members here.
The questionnaire closes on 18 August 2023. Please feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues in the sector!
If you have any feedback or further questions, please get in touch with us at members@petrescue.org.au.
Thanks,
The PetRescue team
